Internet in Spain for travellers: which eSIM to choose

This guide is for anyone visiting Spain, or anyone who needs extra data here without touching their current mobile plan. Two ways to go: by the GB, or unlimited GB with 3 GB a day.

Which plan suits you, by number of days

TripBy the GBUnlimited GB
3 days1 GB · €3.95€9.95
7 days10 GB · €10.95€19.95
15 days20 GB · €17.95€36.95
30 days50 GB · €34.95€64.95

Prices include VAT and are the same as on the Spain page. Validity: the 1 GB plan, 7 days; 3 to 50 GB, 30 days.

For a week of city and beach, with wifi where you stay, the 10 GB plan is more than enough. Check it against your own habits.

When unlimited is worth it, and when it isn’t

A week of unlimited GB costs €19.95. For less money you get 20 GB (€17.95), which you can spread across the days however you like.

  • Ordinary sightseeing: a plan by the GB. There’s no daily cap, and whatever you don’t use today is still there tomorrow.
  • Video, working from your phone or sharing data with another device: unlimited.
  • Longer stays: 50 GB for €34.95 against €64.95 for a month of unlimited.

What unlimited includes, exactly

3 GB a day at full speed and, once you’ve used them, 1 Mbps until the next day.

As with every other destination, the daily allowance and the speed after it are written on the plan card before you pay: why we insist on this.

Where your traffic goes out

In Spain, your traffic goes out through France, the Netherlands or the UK, depending on the connection.

In other words, websites won’t always see you in Spain: the language a site greets you in or a search engine’s local results may change, and a service that only works inside the country might not recognise you. For maps, messaging, social media and video, nothing changes. This is also on the destination page, before you buy.

The network is 5G, with whatever coverage each area has.

How to activate it

  1. Install it before you travel, on wifi. Installing doesn’t use data or start the days.
  2. When you arrive, turn on data roaming for the eSIM line.
  3. The days start with your first connection to a Spanish network.

Steps for each phone model are in the installation guide; check compatibility with the compatibility checker.

Frequently asked questions about internet in Spain

Can I use it for extra data if I already live here?

Yes: it’s a data eSIM and works alongside your usual line. Bear in mind that your traffic goes out through another European country, with what that means for some services.

Do I keep my number and WhatsApp?

Yes. The eSIM only provides data; your SIM stays in the phone with your number.

Does it work in the Canary Islands and the Balearics?

It’s a country plan for Spain. If you have questions about a specific area, write to us through our contact page before you buy.

What happens when I use up the day’s 3 GB?

You drop to 1 Mbps until the next day; it doesn’t cut off.

Can I top up?

Not at the moment: you would need to buy another plan.
