Regional eSIMs: one plan for several countries

An Interrail trip across half of Europe, a month wandering around Southeast Asia, a route through Central America. When the trip doesn’t fit in one country, a single eSIM covers the whole region.

When it’s worth it and when it isn’t

It’s worth it if…

You’re visiting three or more countries. Or you haven’t fixed your route yet and don’t know where you’ll end up sleeping. Or they’re short stopovers where buying one eSIM per country isn’t worth the bother. And you install it only once: no scanning a new QR code at every border.

It isn’t worth it if…

You’re going to just one country. The country plan is usually cheaper and, above all, it tells you which local operator you’ll connect to before you pay. A regional pack can’t tell you that: it connects through whichever roaming agreement applies in each place.

At today’s prices: the Europe eSIM starts at €3.95 and the United Kingdom plan at €3.95. Here the pack costs the same as or less than a single-country plan, so the decision is no longer about price: it’s whether you want to know which local operator you’ll connect to, because only the country plan tells you that.

What to know before you buy one

  • Coverage is a fixed list. A pack doesn’t cover “the whole region”, only specific countries. If yours isn’t on the list, you won’t have a connection there. The list is on each pack’s page: check it before you pay.

  • The data is one shared allowance. There’s no quota per country and no split at the border: what you use in one place comes off the same total for the whole region.

  • There’s no set operator. On single-country plans we tell you the local operator, and whether it’s 4G or 5G, before you pay. With these packs we can’t: in each country it connects through whichever roaming partner applies. We’re saying so because we make a point of the opposite everywhere else on the site, and keeping quiet about it here would show.

  • Your traffic doesn’t exit through the country you’re in. It matters because some websites will treat you as if you were in that country: online banking may ask for extra verification, and your streaming catalogue won’t be the one you get at home. The exit country isn’t the same for every pack: you’ll find it on each pack’s page.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I go to a country that isn’t in the pack?

You won’t have a connection there. A regional pack covers a fixed list of countries, not “the whole region”: it’s on each pack’s page, and it’s worth checking before you buy.

Is a regional pack’s data split by country?

No. It’s a single allowance for the whole region: whatever you use in one country comes off the same total, with no per-country quota.

Which operator will I connect to with a regional pack?

No single one. With single-country plans we tell you the local operator before you pay; with regional packs we can’t, because in each country it connects to whichever roaming partner applies. If you’d rather know in advance, go for the country plan.

Can I use a regional pack in just one country?

Yes, it works the same. But compare it with that country’s plan first: it usually works out better, and it also tells you which network you’ll use.
