eSIM for Interrail

One plan for the whole trip, in the 33 countries of the Europe pack.

The whole trip on one plan

With the Europe pack, the same eSIM works in all 33 countries: you cross the border by train and it keeps working, with no new SIM and no new plan.

The data goes on what you really use on an Interrail trip: your pass and digital tickets in the Rail Planner app, seat reservations, maps from the station to your accommodation and train timetables.

Countries in the pack that often feature on a route: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, and Switzerland.

Which plan to choose

Depending on the length of your trip and how much you use your phone. Only plans that exist in the Europe pack are shown:

Do you need it?

Maybe not. If your mobile plan is from an EU country and includes roaming, inside the EU (and in Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) you use your data as at home, at no extra cost.

It pays off in these cases:

  • If your route goes through Gibraltar, Switzerland, or United Kingdom. They are in the Europe pack but outside EU roaming: there your carrier may charge you extra.
  • If your plan includes few GB of roaming. Many limit how much data you can use abroad: check how much yours gives you before you leave.
  • If your mobile plan is not from an EU country. EU roaming doesn’t apply to you, and your carrier’s roaming is usually charged separately.

One thing to know before you buy: Europe pack traffic exits via the United States. So Google or some apps may show you content from there, and some European services, such as online banking or streaming, may ask for extra verification or not work. Browsing, maps and messaging work as normal.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work when I cross from one country to another by train?

Yes. It’s one plan for the 33 countries of the pack: when you cross the border, your phone connects to a network in the new country without you doing anything.

Does it work for the pass in the Rail Planner app?

Yes. The app needs data to load your pass, activate travel days and check timetables, and the eSIM covers that like any other app. The eSIM does not include or sell the pass.

What if my trip is longer than 30 days?

The pack’s plans last up to 30 days. When yours runs out, you buy another and receive it as a new eSIM, with its own QR code.

When does the plan start counting?

The plan starts counting when the eSIM first connects to a network in the destination country. Installing it at home doesn’t use up any days.
