How many GB do you need?

For 15 days, with just the essentials (maps, messaging and the odd search) you need 0.2 to 0.9 GB; using your phone as at home (plus social media, music and photo backup), 4.4 to 15.8 GB.

For the essentials, 3 GB · 30 days is enough; for use as at home, 20 GB · 30 days. Work it out with your own number of days in the data calculator.

Do you need it?

Maybe not. If your mobile plan is from an EU country and includes roaming, inside the EU (and in Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) you use your data as at home, at no extra cost.

It pays off in these cases:

• If your route goes through Gibraltar, Switzerland, or United Kingdom. They are in the Europe pack but outside EU roaming: there your carrier may charge you extra.
• If your plan includes few GB of roaming. Many limit how much data you can use abroad: check how much yours gives you before you leave.
• If your mobile plan is not from an EU country. EU roaming doesn’t apply to you, and your carrier’s roaming is usually charged separately.
