Do you need it?
Maybe not: many beach hotels have WiFi in the room, and if you’re not going to leave the hotel, that’s enough.
It’s worth it if you’re going on excursions, taking taxis or hiring a car, or if you want to be reachable outside the hotel without paying your carrier’s roaming.

Both options work. With one each, each phone has its own data line; with just one, the other phone connects via hotspot and the data is shared.
When should we install it?
At home, before you leave, on WiFi. Installing it doesn’t use up any days: the plan starts counting when it connects to a network at your destination.
Do I keep my number and WhatsApp?
Yes. The eSIM is data only: your usual line stays on your phone and WhatsApp works with your number.
